RECOMMENDATIONS
For the last twenty years, William I. Robinson has been developing a new theory of capitalism and the state; now his selected writings are collected in War, Global Capitalism and Resistance. His theory of capitalism, imperialism, and the state — describing a transnational capitalist world, a global police state, and the resistance to them — derives from earlier Marxists theories but also transforms and develops them. He applies his theory to such issues as education and migration, and the Israel-Palestine war, and calls for the creation of a new international to confront global capitalism. His writings challenge us to rethink our understanding of capitalism and the class struggle. This compact book contributes to contemporary Marxist theory and should be widely read and debated on the left.

William I. Robinson is an erudite thinker whose writings have arguably earned him a place among the foremost revolutionary left theoreticians of the 21st century. His moral courage and clarity of analysis shines through this timely compilation of his writings on the burning questions of the day.
He sheds light on an array of issues that often leave many of us puzzled as to the socio-political import of 21st century developments and goings-on for want of an overarching vision to help us see the wood for the trees. His book helped me to better understand, among many other topics, the phobic response to mass migration, the rise of the fascist far right, the many wars in the world, the genocide in Palestine and the climate crisis.
Every chapter boldly challenges left wing shibboleths mostly born of inadequate theorization and inattention to the monumental systemic changes that have taken place in the world today. Others resulting from faulty analysis related to poorly formulated political agendas. The main insight is that global capitalism has taken over the whole world and operates as an integrated system controlled by a tiny transnational capitalist class bent on militarized accumulation at the expense of most of humanity and nature. Everyone who wants to stop capitalist globalization in its tracks and help build a better world must read this book.

William I. Robinson is without doubt one of the most outstanding and lucid writers on contemporary capitalism. Always thought-provoking and challenging, this compilation of his writings spanning almost three decades offers a compelling analysis of the changing nature of global capitalism today and how it has spawned mass migration, war, the rise of fascism and the climate crisis. Essential reading for those seriously interested in better understanding the world around us.
